Only the lazy person does not know the health risks of stress. Scientists continue to study the effects of stress on the human body. But, nowadays, they can confidently state that stress destroys your brain, so you should shield yourself from it.

Chronic stress causes your brain to shrink. But this is not the worst consequence of prolonged stress. The decrease in brain size leads to dementia, which disrupts your normal life.

Stress triggers the production of substances that destroy brain cells and lead to brain intoxication. The same events can cause stress in one person, while another can ignore them. Therefore, scientists can only name approximate causes of chronic stress. You should analyze your emotions and find out what events are causing you stress.

It can be:

  • constant conflicts,
  • unhappy marriage
  • unloved work,
  • post-traumatic syndrome.

Perhaps, you are used to living in such conditions. But your nervous system is in a state of heightened excitement. In doing so, your body produces large amounts of corticosteroids during stress, which leads to the destruction of brain cells.

The part of the brain that stores our memories is especially sensitive to the negative effects of corticosteroids.

Through several experiments, scientists have found that chronic stress causes the hippocampus to shrink even in young people. Their brains shrunk to the size of those of old people who suffer from dementia.

Therefore, if you want to have a clear mind even in old age, you must learn to deal with stress and not let it rule your life.

Also, you need to understand that your brain can exaggerate levels of stress and danger. The negative situation causes excitation of the amygdala, which causes anxiety. In this state, you can perceive simple events as negative, which leads to increased stress.

If you have increased anxiety, sleep problems, then perhaps this part of your brain is overexcited.

Your brain cannot function properly in this state. All of its departments begin to work incorrectly, which leads to the outflow of blood from the brain. The consequence of this is the death of brain cells. Therefore, watch your emotions and learn to assess the situation adequately. You don’t need to overexcite your brain if you want to have a healthy brain in old age.
